Same-Day Crowns
Thanks to CEREC technology, same-day dental crowns eliminate the need for temporary restorations and lengthy waiting periods. Using CAD/CAM (computer-aided design and manufacturing), our Greater Kalamazoo dentists can design and create a custom-fitted crown in just one visit, ensuring a perfect fit and balanced bite. This advanced process allows for complete procedures, such as a root canal, without additional follow-ups.
Here’s what you need to know about CEREC same-day crowns and their efficiency that also promises durability and precision.
How You Benefit From Same-Day Crowns
Same-day crowns offer numerous advantages compared to the traditional multi-step process for dental crowns. The primary benefit is speed: instead of waiting for weeks and making multiple visits, the entire process can be completed in a single appointment. This is possible because the crown is designed and fabricated right here in our Portage, MI, dental office using advanced CEREC technology, effectively taking away the step of sending impressions to an outside dental lab.
Despite the faster process, same-day crowns do not compromise on quality or precision. Our CEREC crowns are crafted with great care, using either standard porcelain or e-max® porcelain, a highly durable material that is four times stronger than traditional metal-based crowns. Additionally, we use a shade guide to match the crown with the natural color of your surrounding teeth, ensuring a seamless, natural-looking result.
The strength and aesthetics of these crowns mean they can last well over a decade, providing long-term protection and improving the appearance of your smile.
Do I Need a Dental Crown?
There are many reasons why you might need a dental crown. One of the most common reasons is to restore a cracked, broken, or weakened tooth, which may have been damaged by injury or decay. Crowns are also ideal for addressing large cavities that are too extensive for a standard filling. Additionally, a crown can help protect worn-down teeth, particularly those affecting your bite’s force and overall balance.
Other uses for crowns include improving the appearance of misshapen or disproportionately small teeth, covering stubborn internal stains that don’t respond to professional teeth whitening, and providing support after a root canal. Crowns can also complement dental implants when replacing missing teeth and restore full functionality to your bite.
Breaking Down the Procedure
The process of getting a same-day crown begins with a thorough consultation and examination by one of our dentists. Digital X-rays will be taken to assess your oral health and confirm whether a crown is the best treatment for your needs. If additional procedures, such as a root canal, are required, these will be completed before the tooth is prepped.
To prepare your tooth, a local anesthetic is administered, and sedation options are available if preferred. Some enamel is removed to create space for the crown, and digital impressions are taken. These impressions are then sent to our in-house milling machine, which our dentists use to fabricate the crown in about an hour. Once the crown is ready, it is bonded to your tooth with a strong adhesive and secured with a curing light, ensuring a durable and lasting restoration.
